Toivo peer support app is a free service that provides peer support and information for people who are ill or disabled, as well as their loved ones. The app can also be used anonymously. Peer support in Toivo is not limited to a specific illness or disability — support is available regardless of background.
What the app offers
Toivo serves as a shared platform for organisations, from large national associations to small volunteer-run local groups. Rather than replacing other peer support activities, it complements them by offering a safe platform for digital support. The app includes information about organisations offering peer support and their events, helping users find suitable support without needing prior knowledge.
Peer supporters in the app are trustworthy, trained, and bound by confidentiality, even after they stop volunteering. The service is based on one-to-one peer support through private in-app messages, without the need to exchange contact details.
Who maintains the app?
Toivo peer support app was developed through a partnership between OLKA, HUS, and HyTe ry. OLKA is in charge of the platform’s maintenance costs and coordination, such as including new organisations and training volunteers. The participating organisations are involved in the developing of the app. The app is developed by the Finnish technology company Mesensei Oy.
